Guide

What a quote should include

A quote is an offer to do work or supply goods at a stated price. If the customer accepts, you are expected to deliver at that price. That is why a quote should be clear and complete.

Add your business and customer details, a quote number, and the date. List each item with its quantity and price, then show tax and the total. Add a valid-until date and any terms, such as a deposit or delivery time.

FAQ

Quote questions

What is the difference between a quote and an estimate?

A quote is usually a fixed price for the work described. An estimate is a best guess that can change. If you give a fixed price, say so in your terms.

How long should a quote be valid?

Thirty days is common. A valid-until date protects you if your costs change.

Is a quote legally binding?

It can be once the customer accepts it. Rules vary, so state your terms clearly and check local law if the job is large.

What happens after the customer accepts?

Start the work and send an invoice when it is due. Keep the quote number on the invoice so both sides can match them.
